JYP Entertainment denies takeover attempt by Japanese investment group

JYP Entertainment has officially denied receiving any acquisition proposals following an announcement by Japanese-backed investment groups, The NEXROC Group and SVCV, regarding a potential takeover. The two entities expressed intentions to launch a tender offer as early as November 20, aiming to acquire between 25% and 50% of JYP’s outstanding shares.

If successful, the acquisition would significantly alter the company’s governance, as the target stake exceeds the approximately 15% held by founder and Chief Creative Officer Park Jin-young. The investment groups proposed a purchase price featuring a 30% premium over the reference share price, though specific terms and pricing methods remain unconfirmed.

The announcement triggered significant volatility in JYP’s stock price, which saw a sharp rise in after-hours trading. Consequently, South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has stated it is closely monitoring the situation to protect retail investors from potential losses and to investigate possible unfair trading practices, citing doubts regarding the buyers' financial capacity and transparency.
