Nexstar considers settlement in Diddy’s $100M defamation suit

Sean Diddy Combs is pursuing a $100 million defamation lawsuit against Nexstar Media, the parent company of NewsNation, following controversial segments aired on the program ‘Banfield’. Recent legal filings indicate that both parties are considering mediation or a settlement conference before a federal judge.

The litigation stems from claims made by attorney Ariel Mitchell and her client, Courtney Burgess. Burgess alleged on air that he possessed flash drives belonging to Combs’ late partner, Kim Porter, which contained videos of celebrities at parties involving minors and sexual assault. While a judge dismissed claims regarding the existence of these videos, U.S. District Judge John Cronan ruled that Combs could proceed with claims regarding allegations that baby oil was used as a conduit for drugs to incapacitate victims.

Combs’ legal team maintains that the alleged videos do not exist and that federal investigators have never received such materials. The potential settlement follows the court's determination that the claims regarding the use of oil were plausible enough to warrant further legal scrutiny.
