Next-generation solar cell technologies advance through research and practical installation
Researchers at Suzhou University, in collaboration with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, have developed a new material for next-generation tandem solar cells. The team created an indium-free recombination layer using titanium oxynitride, which establishes a ‘molecular bridge’ between perovskite and crystalline silicon. This advancement aims to increase photoelectric conversion efficiency and long-term stability while avoiding the use of expensive and scarce indium.
In a separate practical application of next-generation solar technology, Shiga Prefecture in Japan has installed lightweight and thin perovskite solar cells on the rooftop of Prefectural Yawata Technical High School in Omihachiman City. This move is part of an effort to expand the use of renewable energy through social implementation.
