Next2Sun files for insolvency for two subsidiaries
Next2Sun, a German pioneer in agri-photovoltaics (Agri-PV), has filed for insolvency in self-administration for two of its subsidiaries: Next2Sun Technology GmbH and Next2Sun Mounting Systems GmbH. The filings were made at the Saarbrücken District Court on October 5.
Managing Director Sascha Krause-Tünker identified the primary cause of the crisis as a lack of EU approval for Agri-PV subsidies. Although the German Bundestag and Bundesrat approved funding in 2024, the necessary clearance from Brussels has not yet been issued. This delay led to a collapse in orders and a halving of revenues within a year, despite the company reaching an operational break-even point in 2024.
A recent capital increase also failed after two major investment commitments proved insufficiently secured, despite over five million euros in subscriptions being available.
The insolvency does not affect the entire group; Next2Sun AG and Next2Sun Projekt GmbH are currently not included, and ongoing projects are intended to continue. However, the company's approximately 140 employees across Germany, Austria, Poland, and Japan face uncertainty, as management has not ruled out staff reductions while searching for new investors.
