NextEra Energy to develop $17B gas hub in Pennsylvania

NextEra Energy Resources is developing the East Riverside Energy Center, a $17 billion natural gas generation hub located in Luzerne Township along the Monongahela River in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

The project, which has a capacity of 4.3 gigawatts, is being financed through Japan’s investment commitment under the U.S.-Japan trade agreement. The development involves the company holding purchase options on approximately 700 contiguous acres, with about 150 acres designated for the plant itself. The facility is planned to feature three combined-cycle power blocks.
