NextGenerationEU enters final phase for PNRR investment tranches

The NextGenerationEU program has reached a significant milestone as the implementation phase for reforms and investments established in National Recovery and Resilience Plans (PNRR) enters its completion stage. Member states have until September 30, 2026, to submit requests for the final payment tranche, which the European Commission aims to complete by December 31, 2026.

To date, 440 billion euros have been disbursed, with a maximum of 133 billion euros remaining to be paid by the end of 2026. The European Commission has already approved the final payment request from Sweden, which successfully completed 100% of its planned investments and reforms, followed closely by Denmark.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that the program helped protect citizens and economies during periods of uncertainty, accelerating green and digital transitions while reducing Europe's dependence on energy imports. The initiative was launched as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy market repercussions caused by the war in Ukraine.
