Nexus Mods acquires SteamDB to ensure platform stability

Nexus Mods, through its parent company Chosen, has acquired SteamDB, a prominent third-party database used to track Steam player statistics, pricing, and game updates. The acquisition aims to provide long-term stability and technical resources to the platform, which has been primarily maintained by its founder, Pavel “xPaw” Djundik, since 2013.

Djundik cited burnout and the increasing technical demands of the expanding Steam ecosystem as primary reasons for seeking a successor. He noted that the rise of AI and changes in the internet landscape had impacted his passion for the project. Under the new ownership, SteamDB is expected to operate as an independent service, retaining its original name, branding, and community identity.

Existing free features will remain free, and users will not be required to create Nexus Mods accounts to access information. The integration is expected to create technical synergies, specifically allowing Nexus Mods to utilize SteamDB’s extensive version history to help modders identify game updates that might cause mod incompatibility.
