NEXUS program to reduce interview scheduling window to two years

The NEXUS trusted-traveller program will revert to a two-year window for applicants to schedule interviews with border agents, effective April 1, 2027. The current five-year window was implemented to address application backlogs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conditionally approved applicants must complete interviews with both the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to receive their NEXUS cards. For those approved after the April 2027 deadline, the two-year limit applies from the date of approval. Applicants approved before that date will have until April 1, 2029, to schedule their interviews.

Interviews are conducted at NEXUS enrolment centres, including locations at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit and the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. During the process, applicants undergo identity verification, fingerprinting, and questioning by both Canadian and U.S. border agents.
