Nexus Select Trust enters Northeast India with ₹1,600-cr Guwahati deal
Nexus Select Trust, India’s largest listed retail Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), has announced its entry into Northeast India through a ₹1,600 crore acquisition in Guwahati, Assam. The company will acquire a 100% stake in the upcoming Galaxy Complex in Beharbari, which includes a 0.5-million-square-foot Nexus Galaxy Mall and a 164-key Hyatt Regency Hotel.
This transaction marks the trust’s first under-construction development deal in the Northeast region and its second such deal since listing. The move signals a strategic shift for the company, moving from pure portfolio expansion toward pursuing development opportunities in high-potential consumption markets. Nexus Select Trust plans to expand further across East Indian hubs, including Kolkata, Siliguri, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Jamshedpur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the investment as a “major vote of confidence” in the city’s potential, noting that the deal reflects Guwahati’s rising consumer demand and growth momentum. The company noted that Guwahati, which serves a regional population of over 50 million, currently faces a significant undersupply of Grade-A retail space.
