Ney Matogrosso converts Saquarema property into Atlantic Forest reserve

Brazilian singer Ney Matogrosso has converted a significant portion of his 140-hectare property in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, into a permanent environmental preservation area. Approximately 80 hectares of the land are protected under the Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) designation, which ensures the conservation of the Atlantic Forest regardless of future ownership.

The initiative includes research activities and fauna recovery efforts. Matogrosso has stated that more than 10,000 wild animals, including species such as catetos, maned wolves, and boas, have been rehabilitated and released back into the wild on the property. The protected areas, including the RPPN Mato Grosso II established in 2008, serve as habitats for regional wildlife and provide natural water sources.
