São Paulo elections: Religious leaders lose seats as Ney Santos faces TSE challenge
The recent elections in São Paulo have resulted in significant shifts in political representation. Several prominent religious figures failed to secure re-election to the Chamber of Deputies or the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp), including David Soares, Daniel Soares, Cezinha de Madureira, Rogério de Madureira, and Gilberto Nascimento.
In contrast, Pastor Marco Feliciano was re-elected as a federal deputy for São Paulo with 122,119 votes. The election also saw a mix of new faces in the Alesp, including ideological candidates from the far-right and former city councilors from the left.
A major legal controversy surrounds Ney Santos, the former mayor of Embu das Artes, who was elected as a federal deputy with 118,566 votes. His inauguration is currently pending a decision by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) following an objection by the Electoral Public Ministry (MPE). The MPE alleges Santos has links to the criminal organization PCC and cites his history of legal issues, including charges of money laundering and leading a criminal organization.
