Neymar Jr. seeks to validate Spanish acquittal in Brazil amid DIS lawsuit

Neymar Jr. is facing a new legal challenge in Brazil regarding his 2013 transfer from Santos FC to FC Barcelona. While a Spanish court acquitted the player of fraud charges in April, the investment company DIS has filed a civil lawsuit in Brazil seeking damages.

DIS claims that the transfer involved undisclosed payments that undervalued the official transfer fee. While Barcelona reported a payment of 17.1 million euros to Santos, the company reportedly paid over 40 million euros to N&N, a business owned by Neymar’s parents. DIS argues these arrangements deprived them of their 40% share of the economic rights.

Neymar’s legal team has petitioned Brazil’s Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) to recognize and validate the Spanish acquittal within Brazilian territory to halt the civil proceedings. Recently, the STJ denied Neymar’s request to keep the case under judicial secrecy and has requested updated documentation regarding the ongoing indemnity action brought by DIS.
