Neymar announces retirement from Brazil national team FAST-MOVING
Brazilian forward Neymar Jr confirmed that he is ending his international career with the Brazil national football team. He made the statement after Santos FC defeated Venezuela’s Universidad Central 4‑2 in a Copa Sudamericana match at Vila Belmiro, saying “My time with the national team is over… I gave my blood, my life, I always fought for the yellow jersey, but now I don’t want it any more.”
Neymar’s last appearance for Brazil came at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the side were eliminated in the round of 16 by Norway. He entered as a substitute and scored a stoppage‑time penalty, which turned out to be his final goal for the Seleção. Over his Brazil career he amassed 130 caps, 80 goals and 58 assists, played in four World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022, 2026), and won the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2016 Olympic gold medal. He is the country’s all‑time leading scorer. He also ruled out any return for the 2030 World Cup.
