Neynski links Russian Black Sea instability to EU energy projects
Former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynski has suggested that Russian efforts to destabilize the Black Sea are linked to European infrastructure and energy security initiatives. She noted that Moscow’s actions may be a response to the European Union’s attempts to establish alternative transport and energy routes, such as the Middle Corridor and the Vertical Corridor, which aim to ensure long-term European independence and prosperity.
Addressing concerns regarding hybrid attacks, drone incursions, and the potential use of nuclear weapons, Neynski urged the public not to succumb to fear. She argued that the activation of nuclear weapons would trigger a reciprocal response, stating that “no one, even Russia, is so reckless as to do that.”
Neynski also commented on Bulgaria’s diplomatic stance, expressing surprise at President Rumen Radev’s meeting with Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova. She suggested that such a meeting might imply an ambition to propose a peace plan for the war in Ukraine, but emphasized that calls for peace must be accompanied by concrete offers and guarantees rather than mere declarations.
