Nezar Patria promotes Aceh as digital hub and uses film for literacy

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, has highlighted the strategic potential of Aceh to become a digital technology hub due to its location along the Malacca Strait. He noted that the strait is a critical corridor for international subsea cables that facilitate global internet connectivity. Nezar emphasized the need to develop local human resources and digital infrastructure, such as gateways in areas like Sabang, to ensure Indonesia can capture economic value from this digital traffic rather than relying on existing hubs like Singapore.

In a separate initiative, Nezar Patria expressed support for using film as an effective medium for digital literacy. During an audience with the Indonesian Institute of Journalism and the production team of the film ‘Menang untuk Kalah’, he noted that audiovisual works can visually demonstrate the social and familial dangers of online gambling and illegal online loans. He suggested that cinema can help the public better understand the pressures and consequences these digital threats pose to individuals and their communities.
