NFF files complaint over Trump‑Infantino intervention in FIFA ban

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) said it will lodge a formal complaint with FIFA after U.S. President Donald Trump called FIFA president Gianni Infantino during the World Cup to request a review of the red‑card suspension imposed on U.S. striker Folarin Balogun. Following Trump’s call, Infantino suspended the one‑match ban for 12 months, allowing Balogun to play in the subsequent round.

NFF president Lise Klaveness said the federation will seek to have Trump and Infantino held accountable by FIFA’s ethics committee and wants Infantino to acknowledge that the decision was a mistake. The International Olympic Committee later stated that a separate complaint against Infantino was outside its ethics jurisdiction. The NFF had already complained about FIFA’s decision to award its first Peace Prize to Trump.
