NFL and American Heart Association launch CPR awareness initiative

The American Heart Association and the National Football League have announced the 2026 Nation of Lifesavers Player Ambassador Class. This third annual initiative utilizes current NFL players to encourage the public to learn Hands-Only CPR ahead of World Restart a Heart Day.

Jaylin Lane, a wide receiver for the Washington Commanders, is among the ambassadors. The program aims to address the fact that more than half of people experiencing cardiac arrest outside of a hospital do not receive immediate CPR. The ambassadors will use social media, public service announcements, and community education to promote life-saving skills.

The initiative follows the 2023 cardiac arrest of Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin. The partnership seeks to move fans from awareness to action, ensuring individuals are prepared to respond during medical emergencies.
