NFL and NFLPA launch new mental health network for players
The NFL and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have announced the launch of a new Behavioral Health Network, set to begin operations on September 1. This initiative is an enhancement to the NFL Player Insurance Plan, designed to provide confidential and simplified access to outpatient mental health services.
Administered by Cigna Healthcare, the national network will cover all 32 NFL markets. The program is intended to support the unique needs of current players, former players, and their eligible dependents. To reduce barriers to care, the network will offer assistance with finding specialists, checking appointment availability, and navigating benefits.
Under the new plan, players will not be responsible for copayments, coinsurance, or other fees for outpatient services provided within the network. Additionally, there will be no limit on the number of visits allowed. NFL officials emphasized that the goal is to prioritize mental and emotional well-being alongside physical health by making professional support more accessible and efficient.
