NFL considers Tokyo for regular-season games as early as 2027

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has confirmed that Tokyo is a primary destination being considered for regular-season games, with the possibility of hosting matches as early as 2027 or 2028. This move is part of a broader strategy to expand the league's presence in the Asian market.

While the NFL previously played 14 exhibition games in Japan between 1976 and 2005, it has yet to host a regular-season game in the country. The league is currently expanding its international footprint, with nine international games planned for the 2026 season, including a historic matchup in Paris between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints.

League officials are also evaluating the possibility of increasing the international schedule to ten games per year starting in 2027. Recent international efforts, such as games held in Australia, have provided the league with logistical insights regarding long-distance travel and fan engagement in overseas markets.
