NFL to increase security for Steelers-Saints game in Paris amid civil unrest

The National Football League (NFL) has confirmed that the upcoming game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints will proceed as scheduled this Sunday at the Stade de France. Despite recent widespread civil unrest, rioting, and looting across France, league officials stated that security measures will be significantly heightened to ensure the safety of players, fans, and staff.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed a “very high” level of confidence in the event's security, noting that the league is coordinating closely with Parisian authorities, the French government, and the U.S. Department of State. Peter O’Reilly, NFL executive vice president, emphasized that the league is monitoring the situation on an hour-by-hour basis and does not expect the game to deplete local emergency resources.

The decision to move forward comes amid significant social tension in France, where protests over the cost of living and education conditions have led to thousands of arrests and property damage. While the game remains on track, the Pittsburgh Steelers have already canceled a planned fan event in the Bastille neighborhood due to safety concerns in that specific area.
