NFL passing trends show significant decade-long decline
The NFL is experiencing a significant shift in offensive trends, moving away from the high-powered passing era seen a decade ago. In 2015, the league set a record with 244 passing yards per game, but by 2025, that average dropped to 210 yards, the lowest since 2006.
This decline includes a reduction in passing attempts, which fell to 32.1 per game in 2025, and a decrease in passing efficiency. The league's average of 6.09 net yards per passing attempt in 2025 marks a notable drop from the peak of 6.41 set ten years prior.
