NFL players show interest in 2028 Olympic flag football

More than 200 NFL players representing over 25 countries have expressed interest in competing in flag football at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, according to NFL executive Brian Flinn. This follows a May 2025 resolution by NFL teams allowing players to participate in the Olympic non-contact sport.

While some players, such as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, have expressed a desire to compete for gold, others like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have indicated they will leave the opportunity to younger athletes. The Olympic tournament will feature six men’s and six women’s teams.

National flag football federations will manage the selection process. Further details regarding NFL player involvement are expected to be released at the conclusion of the 2026-27 season.
