NFL umpire Larry Smith ruled out for season after injury in London
NFL umpire Larry Smith will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a torn quadriceps muscle during a game at Wembley Stadium in London. The non-contact injury occurred during the matchup between the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Smith was forced to leave the field on a medical buggy after attempting to stand and appearing in visible pain. He is currently in his second NFL season, having previously worked in the Big Ten and Mid-American Conferences, as well as officiating the 2023 USFL Championship.
Referee Shawn Hochuli’s officiating crew will require a substitute umpire to fill Smith’s position for the rest of the season, starting with their Week 7 assignment.
