NFL Week 4: Jalon Daniels and George Karlaftis achieve milestones
During NFL Week 4, several former Purdue players and former Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels achieved notable milestones.
Jalon Daniels earned his first NFL start with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Green Bay Packers, stepping in for Baker Mayfield, who suffered a dislocated thumb. Daniels, an undrafted free agent, became the first undrafted rookie to start for the Buccaneers and the first undrafted rookie quarterback to start by Week 4 since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. He completed 19 of 27 passes for 148 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while rushing for 55 yards in a 17-14 loss.
In Kansas City, George Karlaftis contributed significantly to the Chiefs' 30-27 victory over Las Vegas. Karlaftis recorded five tackles, one tackle for loss, and six quarterback hits, including a hit on Kirk Cousins that contributed to a game-sealing interception. His performance earned him a PFF defensive grade of 89.5.
Additionally, former Purdue player Charlie Jones appeared on the New York Giants' practice squad and served as a punt and kick returner. He recorded a 24-yard punt return that led to a field goal. He was joined by former teammate Tyrone Tracy Jr., who recorded a 55-yard return.
