NFLPA Launches Investigation into Carolina Panthers After LB Nic Scourton ACL Tear

The NFL Players Association has opened an investigation into the Carolina Panthers after linebacker Nic Scourton suffered a season‑ending ACL tear on the first day of the team's training camp.

The injury occurred during the mandatory five‑day acclimation period, during which the NFL collective bargaining agreement prohibits live contact and limits on‑field activities to running and conditioning. The NFLPA will review video from Thursday’s practice to determine whether the Panthers violated those rules; the team says it is cooperating with the inquiry.

Panthers officials and teammate Tommy Tremble called the incident a “freak accident.” Scourton, entering his second season after posting 47 tackles and five sacks last year, was expected to be a key defensive piece. The club is also dealing with other injuries, including right tackle Taylor Moton’s blood clot and several defensive linemen placed on the non‑football injury list.
