Ángel Alcalde used deputy status to evade capture for 13 years
Ángel Alcalde, an individual accused of collaborating with the terrorist group ETA, utilized his position as an elected deputy to evade authorities for thirteen years. Originally detained in August 1988, Alcalde presented his credentials as a deputy for Herri Batasuna representing Vizcaya in December 1989.
His election occurred following the resignation of one colleague and the assassination of another. While in prison awaiting trial, Alcalde was included on the Herri Batasuna lists for Vizcaya. Shortly after his parliamentary appearance, he fled and remained at large for over a decade. His initial detention followed the discovery of manuscripts attributed to him regarding potential ETA targets during a police investigation into terrorist Santi Potros.
