Boca Juniors close deal for Colombian goalkeeper Álvaro Montero as River pursues Borré

Boca Juniors confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sign Colombian goalkeeper Álvaro Montero. The 31‑year‑old, who spent the last half‑season on loan at Vélez Sarsfield from Millonarios, will join Boca after his participation in the 2026 World Cup. Vélez will first exercise its $1.5 million purchase option, after which Boca will pay roughly $4 million for 100 % of Montero’s rights and sign him to a four‑year contract.

River Plate is also close to completing a signing, with negotiations advanced to bring former striker Rafael Santos Borré back from Inter de Porto Alegre. The deal is reported to be around $2.5 million, with the player reportedly willing to halve his salary. River’s board sees Borré as a solution to a scoring slump.

Meanwhile, River’s attempt to re‑acquire forward Giovanni Simeone has stalled. Torino has rejected a €9 million offer, indicating it expects around €15 million for the player. The club and River remain in talks, but no agreement has been reached yet.
