Ángel de Jesús E. J. recaptured after escaping Oaxaca custody

Ángel de Jesús E. J., known as ‘El Fresa’, a former police commander from San Antonio de la Cal, has been recaptured in Tamazulápam del Progreso following his escape from judicial custody.

Originally arrested in September, the suspect was being investigated for alleged links to organized crime and extortion through the Alianza de Sindicatos y Asociaciones del Estado de Oaxaca (ASAEO). He escaped from the Forensic Services facility in San Bartolo Coyotepec on a Tuesday afternoon, reportedly with assistance from two women.

The Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca) confirmed his re-arrest on Thursday morning. The operation, carried out by the UFAE special group in coordination with state and federal forces, located the suspect at a hotel in the Mixteca region. He has been transferred back into custody to face judicial authorities.
