Ángel Álvaro Peña, Mexican politician and journalist, dies at 90

Ángel Álvaro Peña, a prominent Mexican politician, journalist, and public servant, has passed away in his hometown of Tuxpan, Veracruz, at the age of 90. His family confirmed his death occurred around 11:35 a.m.

Peña held significant roles within the federal public administration in Mexico City, notably serving as the tour manager for President José López Portillo. He also served as the Secretary of Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography in Veracruz during the administration of Governor Fidel Herrera Beltrán.

A recipient of a National Journalism Prize, Peña founded the magazine ‘Políticos al Desnudo’ and maintained long-standing professional relationships with figures such as journalist Joaquín López-Dóriga. Even in his later years, he remained active in journalism, adapting to digital formats through platforms like ‘El Sol de las Huastecas’ and ‘Noticias Veracruz’.
