Cleveland Guardians sweep Athletics to lead AL Central

The Cleveland Guardians secured a series sweep against the Oakland Athletics, maintaining their lead in the American League Central. In a 1-0 victory on Sunday, pitcher Gavin Williams delivered a dominant performance, throwing seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts. This performance moved Williams to the top of the MLB leaderboards for total strikeouts this season with 244.

The lone run in the 1-0 win came in the fourth inning when Jo Adell hit an RBI infield single, allowing José Ramírez to score following a double. The game featured a controversial moment when Athletics manager Mark Kotsay was ejected after arguing a play at first base.

Earlier in the series, the Guardians' offense was highlighted by a standout performance from Angel Martínez. The Dominican outfielder went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, and four RBIs in a 12-6 win over the Athletics. Martínez’s performance included hitting home runs from both sides of the plate, contributing to Cleveland's four-game winning streak.
