Ängelholm implements school restructuring with increased student transitions

The municipality of Ängelholm has decided to implement a school restructuring plan that increases the number of school transitions for students. Starting in autumn 2027, Errarp and Rebbelberga will become F-3 schools, while Adolfsfältskolan will become Sweden’s largest middle school. Additionally, the Montessori school will be closed, resulting in the loss of the town's only central school.

Under this new model, students will change schools after grade 3 and again after grade 6. While the municipality cites flexibility, staffing, and social benefits as justifications, critics argue that frequent transitions disrupt educational continuity, interrupt support services for students in need, and cause social instability. The decision contrasts with trends in other municipalities, such as Gothenburg, which prioritize fewer transitions to maintain stability in teaching and student relationships.
