Nghệ An authorities search for burial sites of 64 war martyrs

Authorities in Nghệ An province are working to locate the burial site of 64 anti-aircraft soldiers who died during an airstrike in 1966. The soldiers were members of Company 5, Battalion 19 of Military Region 4.

Following information provided by Colonel Nguyen Cao Luu, a veteran and former assistant officer of Battalion 19, a task force conducted a field survey in Do Luong. The unit was stationed in the area to protect vital airspace and intersections of National Highways 7 and 15 when the attack occurred on March 21, 1966.

Initial survey results indicate that the physical locations inspected align with the information provided by the veteran. The Steering Committee for Searching, Gathering and Identifying the Remains of Martyrs in Nghệ An is now using these findings to develop a formal plan for the recovery and repatriation of the remains.
