Nghệ An Police warn of cybersecurity risks from continuous WiFi use
Police in Nghệ An province have issued a warning regarding the security risks associated with leaving WiFi enabled continuously. Cybersecurity experts highlight that constant connectivity can lead mobile devices to automatically connect to unsecured public WiFi networks at locations such as airports, train stations, and cafes.
A primary threat identified is the ‘evil twin’ attack, where hackers create fraudulent WiFi networks with names nearly identical to official ones to deceive users into connecting. Once connected, attackers can steal personal information. Matt Radolec of Varonis noted that cybercriminals exploit the user's desire for quick internet access by using fake login pages that mimic official services, tricking victims into clicking ‘Accept’ or ‘Connect’ without verifying the network's legitimacy.
