Nghệ An proposes parking fees for sidewalks and roadsides
Authorities in Nghệ An province are considering a draft resolution to collect fees for the temporary use of sidewalks and roadsides for vehicle parking. The proposal, currently under public consultation by the Department of Construction, targets six wards including Truong Vinh, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Hung, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc, and Cua Lo.
The draft suggests varying rates based on vehicle type and time of day. For example, bicycles may be charged 2,000 to 3,000 VND per session, while cars up to seven seats could face fees of 10,000 VND during the day and 20,000 VND at night. Larger vehicles and trucks would incur higher costs, with the highest rate reaching 30,000 VND per session for heavy trucks and semi-trailers.
This move comes amid growing concerns regarding urban order and property security. Residents in Vinh have reported difficulties finding parking within apartment complexes, forcing many to park on streets. Recent incidents, including the smashing of windows in eight vehicles near the T&T Victoria apartment complex, have highlighted the security risks and lack of surveillance for vehicles parked in public spaces.
