Nghe An Friendship General Hospital rescues patient from uterine torsion
Doctors at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital successfully rescued a pregnant woman suffering from a life-threatening case of uterine torsion. The patient arrived at the facility in shock, with unmeasurable pulse and blood pressure, experiencing severe abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, and heavy anemia.
Upon emergency surgery, medical staff discovered the uterus had twisted 180 degrees, turning dark purple, and the fallopian tubes and ovaries were also twisted. Due to irreversible damage, doctors were unable to preserve the uterus and performed a subtotal hysterectomy to control bleeding and injury. During the procedure, the patient received 2.5 liters of red blood cells, 1.2 liters of fresh frozen plasma, and 400 ml of cryoprecipitate. After more than two weeks of intensive care, including mechanical ventilation, the patient's health stabilized and she was discharged.
