Nghi Son Economic Zone to host $1.5 billion LNG hub
Thanh Hoa provincial authorities are working with investors to develop a central Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) hub within the Nghi Son Economic Zone. During recent discussions, Mai Xuan Liem, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa People's Committee, met with representatives from Thailand's Gulf Energy Group and Greenwell Energy Vietnam to discuss supply chain solutions and infrastructure development.
The proposed project, centered near Hon Me Island, involves an initial investment of approximately $1.5 billion for its first phase. The facility is expected to have a receiving capacity of 3 million tons per year, with potential expansion to 6 million tons per year.
To support the hub, plans include the construction of a 155km undersea pipeline stretching from Hon Me (Thanh Hoa) to Quynh Lap (Nghe An). This infrastructure is intended to supply gas to LNG power plants in Thai Binh and Nam Dinh provinces.
