NGO-Led Governance Workshops Boost Inclusion in Senegal and Chad
In Fatick, Senegal, the Union of Local Elected Officials partnered with Sightsavers to hold a two‑day workshop on participatory budgeting that is sensitive to the needs of persons with disabilities. The training, funded by Irish Aid under the "Better World" programme, equipped about 20 municipal councillors and representatives of disability organisations with tools to design, implement and monitor inclusive budgets, aiming to embed disability considerations into local development policies.
In Laï, Chad, the NGO ZONAL organized a similar two‑day training for provincial and communal officials, as well as state service representatives, focusing on decentralisation, transparency, accountability, participatory planning and conflict management. The session, attended by members of the Social Accountability Framework and local councillors, was opened by Karmal Parguet Serge, representing the president of the Tandjilé Provincial Council, and emphasized the importance of citizen participation and good governance at the local level.
