NGO project promotes independent living for people with intellectual disabilities
The Asociación Civil Despuntado has launched an independent living project in Villa Luro, designed to help individuals with intellectual disabilities gain autonomy. The initiative provides a residential space where participants can learn domestic tasks and social skills to prepare for life away from their parents.
Residents such as Fernando Pacheco and Jorge Ortiz are currently undergoing gradual training within the house, which was donated by a family member and named “Lo de Tono”. Juan Ignacio Acosta, a special education specialist and founder of the organization, emphasized that achieving independence requires working on autonomy from a young age and providing inclusive spaces for socialization and employment opportunities.
