Ngoni leaders reject proposals to split Mzimba District
Ngoni leaders in Mzimba, led by Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa, have rejected proposals to split the Mzimba District. During the Umthetho cultural event, M’mbelwa argued that dividing the district would not necessarily accelerate development, noting that evidence from other divided districts shows that splitting does not guarantee progress.
M’mbelwa proposed developing the Umthetho venue in Hora into a tourism hub, including a hotel, conference center, and sports facilities. Additionally, officials discussed seeking public-private partnerships for Mombera University, noting that the government has allocated K14 billion and is seeking approximately K300 billion from investors.
In a separate matter addressed during the ceremony, Inspector-General Luhanga urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands following a rise in violence, noting that 50 murder cases have been recorded in the district since January.
