Ngothie residents protest absence of Gandiaye interchange
Residents of the Ngothie district organized a peaceful protest to demand the construction of an interchange at Keur Mbagne Diop, also known as the Gandiaye interchange, on the Mbour-Kaolack highway.
Members of the Collective for the Defense of the Interests of the Ngothie District, representing the communes of Sibassor, Gandiaye, Thiomby, Ndiébel, and Dya, marched to voice concerns over the suspension of this infrastructure project. According to collective members Mamadou Diouf and Mamadou Faye, the original AGEROUTE project included this exit, but its implementation was halted shortly before the completion of the highway works without clear technical explanations.
Protesters argue that the absence of this access point creates significant economic and security challenges, forcing a detour of nearly 50 kilometers between Fatick and Kaolack. The collective is calling for a technical study to reassess the feasibility of the interchange and is seeking a formal dialogue with AGEROUTE and local administrative authorities to ensure the area is properly connected to the new highway.
