Nguyen Duc Thuy proposes V.League expansion and new funding model
Nguyen Duc Thuy, a candidate for the Presidency of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for the 2027–2031 term, has announced an action program focused on financial independence and league expansion. Thuy aims to mobilize between 600 billion and 1,000 billion VND annually starting in 2027 through sponsorships, corporate partnerships, commercial rights, and digital content.
His proposals include expanding the V.League to 16–18 teams and the First Division to 18–20 teams. To support professional clubs, he suggests direct financial assistance of 3 billion VND per V.League club per season, 2 billion VND for First Division clubs, and 2 billion VND for women's football clubs.
Thuy intends to transition the VFF away from reliance on the state budget, suggesting that the approximately 80 billion VND currently allocated by the government could be redirected to other sports targeting Olympic or ASIAD medals. He noted that his candidacy has received support from various business leaders to help develop Vietnamese football.
