Nguyen Thi Binh appeals prison sentence in school fee case

During an appeal hearing on September 11, Nguyen Thi Binh, the former principal of Ba Dinh Secondary School, argued against her three-year prison sentence. Binh maintained that she did not seek personal profit or commit embezzlement regarding extra teaching fees.

Binh presented documents and data to contest the prosecution's claims, asserting that the 15,000 VND per session fee was proposed by parents rather than imposed by her. She argued that meeting minutes showed the principle of voluntary participation and that official notices signed by her did not include the specific fee in question. Binh requested that the court overturn the initial verdict and dismiss the case against her and former accountant Pham Thi Minh Nguyet.
