Nguyen Thi Ngoc detained for fraudulent labor recruitment scam
The Can Tho City Police have prosecuted and detained Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a 38-year-old resident of Vi Thanh 1, for fraudulent appropriation of property. Ngoc is accused of deceiving 11 individuals by promising to facilitate seasonal labor employment in South Korea.
In April 2024, Ngoc reportedly approached victims with a total service fee of 55 million VND per person. She required upfront payments ranging from 20 to 30 million VND per individual, promising that they would be able to depart for South Korea within three to four months. In total, the victims handed over 264 million VND.
Investigations revealed that Ngoc used the funds for personal expenses and failed to complete the promised procedures. To evade accountability, she traveled to Dubai and severed contact with the victims. Authorities noted that Ngoc had previously built trust by citing her frequent travels to countries including South Korea, Malaysia, China, Thailand, and Cambodia. She was apprehended by authorities at the airport upon her return to Vietnam.
