Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan sentenced to 10 years for bidding fraud

Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, the former president and general director of Advanced International Joint Stock Company (AIC), has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Ca Mau Provincial People's Court. The conviction stems from violations of bidding regulations that resulted in serious consequences.

The case involved a contract for the supply and installation of equipment for three automatic surface water monitoring stations in the former Bac Lieu province. Investigations revealed that Nhan directed the creation of a network of “ghost companies” to manipulate bidding processes and undermine competition to favor AIC.

To secure the contracts, Nhan and other executives, including former deputy general director Tran Manh Ha and former project management official Le Thi Linh Nhung, utilized fictitious bidders, inflated budgets, and falsified financial documents and audit reports. The fraudulent activities caused losses exceeding $168,000 to the state budget.
