Nguyễn Anh Tuấn facing prosecution for illegal mining and extortion
The Ministry of Public Security has concluded its investigation and recommended the prosecution of 13 defendants in a major criminal case involving illegal mining, extortion, and accounting fraud at ALMA Construction JSC in Thanh Hoa province.
Central to the case is Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, known as “Tuấn thần đèn,” who faces three charges: violating regulations on resource exploration and exploitation, violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences, and extortion. Investigators allege that Tuấn and his associates used threats and pressure to demand 3 billion VND from a neighboring mining company, DHT. Instead of taking the money, the group proceeded to illegally mine over 96,000 cubic meters of soil from DHT’s territory.
Furthermore, the group engaged in systematic tax evasion by issuing invoices at lower prices than actual sales and failing to record revenue for cash customers. The investigation also revealed a secondary fraud involving Hoàng Văn Phú, a former forestry official who allegedly deceived members of the group regarding land planning to embezzle 660 million VND.
Other key defendants include Trịnh Văn Tuấn, Trịnh Xuân Thành, and several managers from ALMA, who are being prosecuted for their roles in directing illegal mining activities and managing fraudulent financial records.
