Nguyễn Bá Hoan to face trial for bribery in labor export case

The Hanoi People's Court is scheduled to begin a trial on August 18 for Nguyễn Bá Hoan, the former Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and 27 other defendants. The case involves charges of bribery, brokering bribery, and serious violations of accounting regulations.

According to the indictment, between 2017 and 2025, officials within the Ministry's Department of Overseas Labour Management engaged in misconduct regarding the licensing process for labor export services. It is alleged that Nguyễn Bá Hoan and Tống Hải Nam, the former Director of the Department, directed subordinates to deliberately delay applications and create technical barriers. This forced 28 companies seeking service licenses and 4 companies seeking labor supply contract approvals to pay illegal fees ranging from 100 million to 400 million VND per instance.

Total illegal payments are estimated to exceed 30.2 billion VND. The trial, presided over by Judge Lưu Ngọc Cảnh, is expected to last approximately nine days.
