Nguyen Thi Kim Tien to face appellate trial over hospital project mismanagement
Former Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien is scheduled to appear at an appellate trial in Hanoi on September 25 and 26. The trial follows a first-instance verdict in May, where she was sentenced to six years in prison for violating regulations on the management and use of state assets, causing significant waste and loss.
Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and nine other defendants have filed appeals seeking reduced sentences, suspended prison terms, and lower compensation requirements. The original ruling ordered her to pay 108 billion VND in compensation. The case stems from irregularities in the construction projects for the second facilities of Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital, which resulted in state losses exceeding 803 billion VND.
Other defendants in the case include Nguyen Chien Thang, who received a 30-year sentence, and Nguyen Huu Tuan, who received 25 years, for various charges including bribery and mismanagement of state assets.
