Nguyễn Thị Thanh Tâm charged with 836 million VND fraud

Phú Thọ Provincial Police have officially initiated criminal proceedings against Nguyễn Thị Thanh Tâm, born in 1998, for the crime of “fraudulent appropriation of property.”

According to investigators, Tâm targeted the family of an individual working illegally in Japan who had been detained by Japanese police. Using various social media platforms including Facebook, Zalo, and Gmail, Tâm created fake identities and posed as various stakeholders to convince the victim’s sister that she possessed the connections necessary to “run the case” and secure the individual's release.

Between February and April 2025, the victim transferred a total of 836,128,000 VND to Tâm’s bank account. Instead of facilitating any legal assistance, Tâm misappropriated the entire amount for personal use. The investigation is ongoing to consolidate the case file for further legal processing.
