Nguyễn Xuân Son returns to Vietnam to treat hamstring injury

Striker Nguyễn Xuân Son returned to Hanoi on the morning of September 29 following a hamstring injury sustained during Vietnam's opening match against the Philippines in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.

Medical examinations in Indonesia confirmed a posterior thigh muscle injury, with an estimated recovery period of four to six weeks. At the request of the player, head coach Kim Sang Sik approved his return to Vietnam to facilitate personal living arrangements and specialized treatment at his club, Nam Dinh FC.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will coordinate closely with Nam Dinh FC to monitor his recovery process. The injury is considered a significant loss for the national team, as the 29-year-old striker has recorded 15 goals since December 2024, maintaining a scoring rate of approximately one goal per match.
