NGX CEO Temi Popoola urges inclusive, sustainable wealth creation in Nigeria
Temi Popoola, Group Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), said Nigeria’s capital market must move beyond merely generating wealth to ensuring that prosperity is inclusive, sustainable and underpinned by strong governance. Speaking at the 2026 Nairametrics Capital Market Awards in Lagos, he stressed that the future strength of the Nigerian economy will depend on how wealth is created, who participates, and the lasting impact on society.
Popoola highlighted the market’s role in mobilising capital to productive sectors, supporting innovation, creating jobs and driving long‑term development. He noted rising retail investor participation, citing NGX Invest’s digital platform, which helped raise more than N2.8 trillion and onboard over two million investors in 2025. He called for greater transparency, resilience, and collaboration between public and private sectors to boost investor confidence and broaden access across geography, gender, age and background.
The executive also pointed to global investors’ increasing focus on governance, environmental sustainability and social impact, urging Nigerian firms to adopt accountable, long‑term value creation practices.
